Kimmins announces £600,000 resurfacing scheme for Tates Avenue, Belfast

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that a £600,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on Tates Avenue, Belfast, is due to commence on Monday 21 September 2026.
The scheme extends between Lisburn Road and Boucher Road, covering a total distance of 880m.
Preliminary work will commence on 21 September. Resurfacing work will then take place over two weekends from Friday 2 October until Monday 5 October and on Saturday 17 October and Sunday 18 October when road closures will be in place.
Minister Kimmins said:
"This is a substantial investment for the Belfast area and will deliver significant benefits for residents, businesses and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to maintaining and improving our road network. Well-maintained roads support safer and more comfortable journeys, and this scheme will help ensure that Tates Avenue continues to serve the local community effectively for years to come."
To facilitate the safe delivery of the works, a series of traffic management measures, road closures and temporary lanes restrictions, will be in place. During road closures a diversion will be in operation via Lisburn Road, Stockmans Lane and Boucher Road. Local access for residents and businesses will be maintained where practicable throughout the scheme.
Road users are advised to allow additional time for their journeys while the works are underway and to comply with all temporary traffic management arrangements. The Department has carefully planned the works to minimise disruption; however, some delays may be unavoidable.
All works and are expected to be substantially complete by Thursday 22 October 2026, subject to favourable weather conditions.
