Kimmins announces £550,000 Shared Footway/Cycleway Scheme for Stiles Way, Antrim

The scheme forms part of the Department's ongoing commitment to improving active travel infrastructure and enhancing accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.

The project will extend approximately 480 metres along the B158 Stiles Way, beginning at the Stiles Way Roundabout on the A26 Ballymena Road, passing beneath the railway bridge and connecting via a ramp to the Springfarm Footbridge.

As part of the works, a new toucan crossing will be installed on the eastern side of the Stiles Way Roundabout and the route will connect to a second toucan crossing located on the southern side of the roundabout at the Ballymena Road entrance, creating a continuous and safer link for pedestrians and cyclists travelling through the area.

Minister Kimmins said:

Temporary traffic management will be in place on the B158 Stiles Way from 10 August 2026 for a period of 18 weeks.

The Department has programmed the works and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience. However, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional travel time when journeying through the area.

The dates and duration of the works are dependent on favourable weather conditions. All works will be carried out in accordance with current health and safety requirements, with safe systems of work in place for staff and contractors.
