    Date published: 28 April 2025

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that a £485,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on Hannahstown Hill, Belfast is commencing today, Monday 28 April 2025.

The resurfacing scheme will extend from the junction of the Glen Road to the junction of Upper Springfield Road.

    Minister Kimmins said:

“This substantial investment of £485,000 for West Belfast will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users who travel through this area and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

To facilitate the scheme, it will be necessary to implement weekday road closures for the duration of the works from Monday 28 April 2025 until Friday 30 May 2025, between the hours of 9.30 am and 4.00 pm.

In addition, three consecutive weekend closures will be required to facilitate carriageway re-surfacing works. These closures will be in place from 7.00 pm on Friday 9th May until 6.00 pm on Sunday 11th May, daily on Saturday 18 May and Sunday 19 May from 8.00 am until 6.00 pm and daily on Saturday 24 May and Sunday 25 May from 8.00 am until 6.00 pm.

During periods of closure a diversion will be in place via the Glen Road, Monagh by-pass and Upper Springfield Road.

The Department has carefully programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience. However, whilst steps have been taken to accommodate local access for residents and local bus services,  road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works. Road users are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works are anticipated to be complete by Friday 30 May 2025. The Department will however keep the public informed of any change.
