    Date published: 23 February 2026

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that a £423,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on Beechill Road, Belfast will commence on Monday 23 February 2026.

The resurfacing scheme will extend for approximately 1.06 km from the junction of Purdysburn Road to the Newtownbreda Road.

    Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said:

“This is a substantial investment for the Lisburn and Castlereagh area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

To facilitate the scheme, it will be necessary to implement localised lane closures during the first two weeks. This will be followed by full road closures (Mon to Fri only) on Beechill Road, between Purdysburn Road and Newtownbreda Road, during the hours of 8am and 6pm, from Monday 9 March 2026 until the start of May 2026. A diversion route will be signed along Purdysburn Road, Beechill Road, Saintfield Road, A55 Newtownbreda Road, Belvoir Road, C302 Newtownbreda Road and Beechill Road.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience to road users. However, whilst steps have been taken to accommodate local access, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works. Roads users are also asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions it is anticipated that the works will be substantially complete by Friday 1 May 2026.The Department will, however, keep the public informed of any change.
