  • Kimmins announces £100,000 essential maintenance works on A28 Armagh to Newry Road

    Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced essential safety related maintenance works on the A28 Armagh to Newry Road between Armagh and Markethill.

    The works will be carried out between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm from Monday 27 October until Friday 31 October 2025, with work taking place during the school half term break when traffic volumes are lower to reduce the impact on the travelling public.

    The work will include defect repairs, large scale patching, road markings and drainage works.  In order to carry out the works safely, it will be necessary to implement a daytime road closure between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm from Monday 27 October until Friday 31 October 2025.

    Minister Kimmins said: 

    “This investment in these essential maintenance works will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.” 

    Newry bound traffic will be diverted via the A3 Friary Road, A3 Barrack Street, A51 Gaol Square, A51Barrack Hill, A51 Hamiltonsbawn Road, A51 Main Street, B111

    Mullaghbrack Road, B78 Mullaghbrack Road

    Armagh Bound Traffic Will Be Diverted  A28, B0003 Keady Street, Gosford Road, B78 Castleview Road, B0078 Main Street,  B3 Coolmillish Road, B31 Newtownhamilton Road, A29 Keady Road, A3 Slip Road North, A3 Irish Street, A3 Friary Road, A3 Barrack Street.

    The Department has programmed these essential works and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience however; road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.
