Kimmins announces essential maintenance works on B8 Newry Road, Mayobridge

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced essential safety related maintenance works on the B8 Newry Road in Mayobridge. The works will necessitate a full road closure from 8am Monday 17 November to Friday 28 November 2025 at 5pm from the B8 junction with Aughnagon Road to the junction with Crossan Road.
Minister Kimmins said:
“These essential maintenance works will deliver benefits for residents and road users and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”
The closure is to facilitate emergency repairs to a culvert with the diversion routes as follows:
Diversion route 1:- B8 Newry Rd, B8 Hilltown Road, U6185 Derryleckagh Road, B7 Bridge Road, B7 Chapel Road
Diversion route 2:-A25 Rathfriland Road, A25 Newry Road, A25 Newry Street, A25 Main Street, A25 Downpatrick Street, Hilltown Road, B25 Rathfriland Road
The Department has programmed these essential works and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience however road users should expect delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.
