Foyle Bridge inspection to commence
Date published:
A routine Principal Inspection of the Foyle Bridge will commence on Tuesday 14th July 2026.
The inspection will involve a close examination of all accessible parts of the structure to ensure its continued safety, functionality, and durability.
To ensure the safety of the inspection team and the travelling public, temporary traffic management arrangements, including lane and footway closures, will be required at different times during the inspection.
The Department has planned the works for the summer months and will endeavour to keep delays to a minimum. We will monitor traffic impacts throughout the works.
An enforceable 30mph speed limit will be in place. Culmore Roundabout’s segregated left turn lane may be closed, to avoid the need to merge three lanes into one.
The Bridge will be open as normal with no temporary traffic management arrangements in place as listed below to facilitate the following:
- Mon 20 July – Sat 25 July inclusive – Foyle Cup.
- Sat 8 August - The 2026 Relief of Derry celebrations.
- Sat 5 Sept - European Triathlon.
- Sun 6 Sept - Waterside Half Marathon.
We would ask the travelling public for their patience while this essential inspection work is carried out. Road users should allow extra time for their journeys. The Department apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Completion of the Inspection works is due by September; however, the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
