Council gets update on infrastructure projects for Causeway Coast and Glens

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council members have been updated on programmed infrastructure works for the area by the Department for Infrastructure.

Speaking as she addressed council members this evening, Divisional Roads Manager Deidre Mackle said:

“Next month the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council area will see the completion of the £55 million A26 Frosses Road Dualling.  This project will realise significant benefits for both the local community and commuters by improving both journey times and journey time reliability for this stretch of the A26, thus reducing driver frustration and improving the safety performance of the route for all road users.

“Over the next year, the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council area will see work begin on a number of road improvement schemes including resurfacing schemes at A26 Newbridge Road, A37 Broad Road, A29 Carhill Road and B16 Garryduff Road.  A proposal to address a significant collision history at Revellagh Crossroads (B62 Ballybogey Road/B17 Cloyfin Road/B17 Priestland Road) is also currently being developed in conjunction with the PSNI.”

Ms Mackle also said:

“However, the indicative budget outlined by the Secretary of State in April does mean that there are likely to be knock on impacts for services including routine maintenance of the road network. In this area, the Department is likely to be reliant on additional resources becoming available. We understand the implications of the limited service and its long term impacts on the network and we are doing our best to deliver routine maintenance within the allocated budget.

“The Department’s objective is to continue to deliver routine road maintenance services at the current level for as long as possible. While services will be constrained, we are planning to meet all essential public safety requirements.” 

Concluding, Deidre Mackle said: 

“It is also worth noting that a number of other projects were recently completed in the area. Among them was the new roundabout at the A37 Broad Road/C570 Greystone Road junction in Limavady.

“The scheme addresses a significant collision history at this location along with peak time queuing and delays at Greystone Road and cost approximately £400,000. The works also included resurfacing on the A37 Broad Road approaches extending between the junctions of Drumsurn and Rathmore Roads.

“Significant sections of carriageway resurfacing were also carried out at A6 Foreglen Road, Dungiven, A2 Tromra Road, Cushendall, A2 Cushendall Road, Ballycastle, A29 Drumcroon Road and Carhill Road, Coleraine and A26 Frosses Road, Ballymoney.”
