Speaking as he addressed council members today, Eastern Divisional Roads Manager Kevin Monaghan said:

“Over the next six months the Belfast City Council area will see the completion of a number of resurfacing schemes including Columbia Road, Leopold Street and Rosebank Street. These projects will result in significant benefits for both the local community and commuters.

“Despite a challenging budget situation, the Department has delivered a significant programme of resurfacing and surface dressing. Structural maintenance activities including pothole repairs/patching along with street lighting repair and grass cutting will continue to be carried out to meet all essential public safety requirements.”

In relation to winter gritting services, Mr. Monaghan said:

“The Department is delivering a normal winter service, as in previous years, with all necessary staff and equipment at the ready to be deployed as and when required.”

Concluding, Mr Monaghan said:

“It is also worth noting other projects in the area recently completed, including new puffin crossings at Carrick Hill near Tyrone Street and North Circular Road at Cave Hill Primary School plus a range of other local traffic and safety measures have also already been delivered.”

Director of Transport Projects and Business Services Ciarán De Búrca provided an update on other key projects underway, saying:

“Works are continuing on the new Belfast Rapid Transit (BRT) system including widening of carriageways to form new bus lanes, relocate services, improve drainage, improve pedestrian safety and resurface footways and carriageways.”
