    Consultation description

Department of the Environment’s (DOE) are seeking views on proposals to introduce a suite of fixed penalties for offences related to taxi operator licensing. From 1 September 2012 it has been a requirement that any person providing taxi services either hold a taxi operator licence or be an affiliated driver on someone else’s operator licence. Associated with the requirement to be a taxi operator there are a number of offences for which an operator or someone without an operator licence could be taken to court.

Similarly, in addition to the current suite of taxi related fixed penalties it is proposed that the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) and the Police Service for Northern Ireland (PSNI) will have the discretion to offer someone who has committed an offence a fixed penalty rather than refer the offender to the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) for court action.
