    Consultation description

Over the last two decades significant improvements have been made in reducing drink driving in Northern Ireland but unfortunately more needs to be done. Over the last five years (2007-2011) 76 people have been killed and 522 seriously injured by drivers impaired by drink or drugs. In 2009, the Department issued a consultation paper inviting views on a range of measures aimed at deterring people from drinking and driving.

Following on from this the Department has proposed amendments to the Road Traffic Bill with additional measures included to tackle drink and drug driving in Northern Ireland.
