Mandatory Wearing of Helmets on Quadricycles

Consultation opened on 27 June 2012. Closing date 28 September 2012.

Proposals to make the wearing of helmets mandatory for riders / drivers of, and passengers on, quadricycles used on public roads.

Consultation description

The number of casualties from road traffic accidents involving quadricycles has increased in recent years and members of the public have expressed their concern to the Department about the use of such vehicles. Although riders and passengers on two-wheeled motorcycles are required by law to wear helmets when riding on public roads, this requirement does not extend to quadricycles.

The Department is considering the extension of the mandatory requirement to wear helmets to quadricycles. This consultation document sets out the various options open to the Department and the implications of these options.
