Eglinton Flood Alleviation Scheme
The principal aim of the Eglinton Flood Alleviation Scheme is to reduce flood risk to homes, businesses and key infrastructure within Eglinton village and the terminal building of the City of Derry Airport from fluvial and surface water flooding.
Scheme Details
The Outline Business Case for the Eglinton Flood Alleviation Scheme has been approved by both the Department for Infrastructure and the Department of Finance.
The preferred option has the potential to reduce flood risk to approximately 100 residential and 33 non-residential properties through a combination of flood defences, bridge improvements, drainage upgrades, Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and Natural Flood Management measures.
Subject to funding availability, the scheme will now progress to detailed design.
Community Engagement
A public information event was held 17 September 2026 to present the preferred option and provide an opportunity for residents, businesses and stakeholders to view the proposals and discuss the development of the scheme with members of the project team.
