Planning Advice Note 01/20: Permitted Development by Electronic Communications Code Operators - Safeguarding

The Department issued this planning advice note to councils in December 2021 advising them of changes to the permitted development rights for telecommunications development by mobile network operators.
The advice note highlights changes which have been introduced to Part 18 of the Schedule to the Planning (General Permitted Development) Order (Northern Ireland) 2015 to take account of safeguarded areas around airports and various technical sites.
It also draws attention to the councils' responsibility under the Electronic Communications Code (Conditions and Restrictions) Regulations 2003 (as amended) and sets out the procedures to be followed when notified by an operator of works that are to be carried out under permitted development.
