The Motor Vehicles (Authorisation of Special Types) Order (Northern Ireland) 2026.

Certain vehicles may not normally be permitted to use public roads due to their large dimensions and heavy weight. However such vehicles are frequently required for special tasks beneficial to environment, transport, infrastructure and economy. Legislative powers under Article 60 of the Road Traffic (NI) Order 1995 (1995 No. 2994 (N.I. 18)) permits the use on public roads of vehicles being constructed of a Special Type or for a Special Purpose. The diverse movement required by these vehicles supports the use of a General Order rather than the alternative more restrictive Individual Vehicle
