Guidance on Safety Management, Certification and Authorisation

Date published: 14 March 2024

This Guide explains the provisions of the Railways (Safety Management) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 (as amended). It does not seek to cover all aspects of the legislation and should not be treated as a complete and authoritative statement of such.

It will be of particular interest to health and safety managers in the rail industry, staff working on the railway, and other managers in roles which affect safety, but should also be a useful source of information to trade union representatives, the legal profession and the general public.

Details

Under these regulations, no one is able to operate vehicles or manage infrastructure on NI network unless they have obtained the appropriate safety certificate or authorisation.

The relevant administrative forms are located below the guide document.
