CONTROL OF TRAFFIC – ISLAND STREET AREA, BELFAST
The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) has made a Statutory Rule entitled “The Control of Traffic (Island Street Area, Belfast) Order (Northern Ireland) 2025”, (S.R. 2025 No. 159), which comes into operation on 17th October 2025.
The Rule will –
• provide a segregated two-way cycle track on a length of Ballymacarrett Road and Island Street, Belfast;
• provide a shared footway/cycle track on a length of Dee Street and Island Street, Belfast;
• prohibit vehicles waiting at any time (loading and unloading permitted) on lengths of Ballymacarrett Road and Island Street, Belfast;
• prohibit vehicles waiting at any time (loading and unloading not permitted) on lengths of Ballymacarrett Road and Island Street, Belfast; and
• introduce parking places for disabled persons’ vehicles with unlimited waiting on a length of Ballymacarrett Road, Belfast.
Vehicles are excepted from the prohibitions in certain circumstances.
