All-Island Strategic Rail Review
Date published:
The All-Island Strategic Rail Review Report sets out a high-level strategic vision to “deliver an accessible, efficient, safe and sustainable transport system that supports communities, households and businesses”.
In pursuing this vision, the Report details 32 recommendations to markedly improve the inter-urban and regional/rural rail system for passengers and communities across the island of Ireland over the period to 2050. These recommendations would enable rail to be a stronger backbone of a high-quality sustainable transport system, through more track capacity, electrification, increased speeds, higher frequencies and new routes.
A Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Appropriate Assessment (AA) of the All-Island Strategic Rail Review have been carried out to ensure environmental considerations have been incorporated into the Review. All mitigation and monitoring measures are outlined in the Review Report, and in the SEA documents and AA Report (Natura Impact Statement) published alongside the final Report.
