Kimmins announces £450,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on A2 Greenbank Road, Roundabout, Newry

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced a resurfacing scheme on the A2 Greenbank Road, Roundabout, Newry, commencing on Monday 18 May 2026.
The resurfacing scheme will involve the asphalt resurfacing of the Greenbank Road Roundabout and side roads adjacent to the roundabout.
Minister Kimmins said:
“This is a substantial investment for the Newry area which will deliver significant benefits for local businesses, residents and road users. This investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling in the Newry area. Work is expected to be substantially completed by Saturday 30 May 2026. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”
To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to implement overnight road closures, commencing Monday 18 May to Saturday 30 May 7pm to 6 am.
A diversionary route will be signposted via A2 Warrenpoint Road, A2 Newry Road, A2 Newry St., A2 Church St., B7 Duke St., B7 Upper Dromore Road, B7 Milltown St., B7 Bridge Road, B7 Chapel Hill, B8 Newry Road, B8 Hilltown Road, A25 Rathriland Road, A25 Windsor Hill, A25 Sandys St., A1 Downshire Road, A1 Trevor Hill, A1 Upper Water St., A1 Abbey Way, A1William St., A2 Kilmorey St and vice versa.
Completion of the work by Saturday 30 May 2026 is subject to favourable weather conditions, however, the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
