    Topics:

    Date published: 31 October 2017

Road works and utility services in the Mount Eagles housing development, Belfast are complete and the development can now be adopted into the public road network.

These works were previously left unfinished by a developer and many of the roads and footways in the development fell short of the necessary standard required for adoption. The Department took enforcement action against the developer and used road bonds to fund the completion of the works, without the use of additional public funding.

The works have been carried out in eight phases over several years at a total expected cost of approximately £450,000. This final phase involved approximately 600 metres of carriageway and footway surfacing, as well as crossing facilities and traffic calming measures.

Other works that required completion within the development included repairs and certification of the street lighting and water and sewerage systems. The Department worked closely with NI Water to coordinate the completion of essential work to the water and sewerage systems within the development prior to laying the final road surface.

It is expected that the development will be formally adopted into the public road network on completion of the works. This means that the Department will be responsible for maintenance of the carriageways, footways and street lighting system, as well as the water and sewerage system.
