SmartCards introduced for Strangford Lough Ferry Service
Date published:
The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) has introduced a new online SmartCard service for Strangford Lough Ferry Service.
SmartCard journeys can now be purchased online and will automatically upload to your registered SmartCard.
Once registered, customers can top-up, check usage, remaining balance, expiry date of journeys and disable lost or stolen SmartCards.
The online portal has been developed for Strangford Lough Ferry Service and will make travel easier for SmartCard customers with registered users having access to their card information 24/7 from where ever they are.
The development has been welcomed by DfI Minister Kimmins who said:
“Strangford Ferry provides an important connection across Strangford Lough.
“The ferry service made more than 21,364 scheduled sailings in 2024/2025 with 214,355 vehicles crossing in that time.
“The introduction of the online portal will make it easier for passengers to manage their SmartCard when and where they want to. Making the process of travelling on the ferry simpler for all.”
