A shared footway/cycleway scheme is due to commence on the A29 Dungannon Road, Cookstown on Monday 17 April.

The works will extend along the A29 Dungannon Road, Cookstown to provide approximately 620 metres of new shared footway / cycleway from the B0520 Tullywiggan Road leg of the A29 Dungannon Road Roundabout towards Riverdale Drive.

This scheme which will provide further links to the existing network, will greatly enhance provision for walking, wheeling and cycling in the Cookstown area and is part of the Department’s ongoing commitment to increase opportunities for active travel.

To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to implement a temporary 40mph speed limit continually throughout the duration of the works until Friday 11 August 2023.

The temporary speed limit will apply on the A29 Dungannon Road and C662 Sandholes Road, Cookstown (from its junction with Dungannon Road Roundabout to a point 300metres west of that junction) and
the A029 Dungannon Road (from a point 880 metres south-west of A029 Dungannon Road Roundabout to a point 48metres north-west of that roundabout) and the A029 Dungannon Road Roundabout.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience, however, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the area.

In order to help ensure the safety of road users and road workers the public is asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions and to drive with extra care when travelling in the vicinity of the works.

Completion of the works by 11 August 2023 is dependent on favourable weather conditions.  The Department will keep the public informed of any changes. All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
