Resurfacing scheme for Garden City and Ballynasilloe Avenue, Derry

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that a £174,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme at Garden City and Ballynasilloe Avenue, Derry will commence on Monday 3 August 2026.
The resurfacing scheme will involve the asphalt resurfacing of 305 metres of the U1515 Garden City and Ballynasilloe Avenue commencing 10m east of the centreline of its junction with U1515 Kingsfort Park and extending towards the A1002 Culmore Road. The first phase of the works will involve completion of preparatory civil engineering works in advance of the resurfacing.

The investment demonstrates my commitment to investing in and improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”
To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to implement lane closures during the works period. To help ensure the safety of road users and road workers, motorists are asked to drive with extra care when travelling in the vicinity of the works.
The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience however, while steps have been taken to accommodate local access and Translink bus throughout the scheme, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.
Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by Friday 11 September 2026, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
