  • Record public transport use during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann shows strong demand for public transport - Kimmins

    Topics:

    Date published: 12 August 2026

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has praised Translink for the delivery of public transport services during the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

More than 1.7 million journeys were made across the Translink bus and rail network between 2 and 9 August, representing an increase of more than 620,000 journeys compared with the same period last year.

    The Minister said:

"Delivering more than 1.7 million journeys during the eight-day Fleadh was a significant achievement and ensured that visitors and local people could travel to and from events across the city.  I want to thank Translink and everyone involved in planning and delivering transport services during what was a hugely successful event."

"The scale of the Fleadh required extensive planning and close coordination over many months across a range of organisations.  The delivery of transport services, traffic management arrangements and road network operations all played an important role in supporting the event."

"It was encouraging to see so many people choosing public transport, as well as walking, wheeling and cycling, throughout the week.  The record levels of use seen during the Fleadh show how effective public transport can be in moving large numbers of people safely and efficiently, supporting a vibrant city centre and helping people access everything the city has to offer."
