    Date published: 28 December 2017

A £217,000 road improvement scheme on the A2 Main Road and U320 Bog Road, Portavogie is due to commence on Monday 8 January 2018.

    Resurfacing work

The resurfacing scheme, which will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway and footway on a 1.2 kilometre section of these important ‘A class’ and ‘U class’ roads in Portavogie will be substantially completed by the end of February.

To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors it will be necessary to operate temporary traffic signals and road closures during the course of the improvements.

Traffic seeking access to A2 Main Road will be diverted via A2 Main Road, Victoria Road, Springvale Road, B5 Greyabbey Road, Ballywalter Road, A20 Portaferry Road, B173 Rubane Road, A2 Cloughey Road.

Traffic seeking access to U320 Bog Road will be diverted via A2 Cloughey Road, B173 Kircubbin Road.

Local access will be maintained and all diversions and restrictions will be clearly signposted.

The planned dates for the scheme are subject to favourable weather conditions and the Department will keep the public informed of any change.

The works operations and traffic management arrangements have been carefully programmed in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public, however motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.
