Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon has announced that a £350,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on Magheraknock Road, will commence on Monday 9 March.

Lane closure during resurfacing work

The scheme which extends between Back Road and Laurel Road will involve resurfacing and the reconstruction of isolated sections of footways and other kerbing works.

A road closure will be in operation from 2 March until 10 April 2020 between the hours of 9.30 am and 4.30 pm, Monday to Friday.

A further road closure will be in place from 20 April until 8 May 2020 between the hours of 9.30 am and 6.00 pm, Monday to Friday.

Minister Mallon said:

“Magheraknock Road is an important route connecting Lisburn and Ballynahinch. This investment will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the road network to the benefit of all who travel on it.”

Access will be maintained for local residents during road closure periods.

To help ensure the safety of road users and road workers the public is asked to follow signed diversionary routes, comply with all temporary traffic restrictions and to exercise care when travelling through, or in the vicinity of, the works.

Whilst the Department has programmed these works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise the inconvenience to the public, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when planning their journey.

Completion of the work by the 8 May 2020 is subject to favourable weather conditions however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
