Kimmins commends Fermanagh Community Transport for connecting people

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has commended Fermanagh Community Transport for the contribution it makes to keeping some of our most vulnerable individuals connected.
The Minister was visiting Fermanagh Community Transport premises at Enniskillen Business Centre as part of a range of events during Community Transport Week, which runs each year in recognition of the important role providers play connecting people and communities through affordable and accessible transport.
Fermanagh Community Transport offers a Dial a Lift Service to those who live in rural areas of Fermanagh and a Disability Action Transport Scheme for people living in Enniskillen.
Minister Kimmins said:
“Community transport services are a valuable lifeline for many in local communities and I am delighted to visit Fermanagh Community Transport during this Community Transport Week.
“Today was an opportunity to see and hear first-hand from service users on the impact this service makes to their daily lives in supporting independence, accessibility and social inclusion. I also heard from staff and volunteers on the challenges they face but also on how rewarding their role can be by helping others.
“Fermanagh Community Transport offers a unique combination by delivering vital door to door transport in both a rural and urban setting. People who live in rural areas are at particular risk of feeling isolated and, without these services, would find it difficult to access essential services and remain connected to family and friends. Staff and volunteers can be very proud of the work they are doing here.”
Minister Kimmins added:
“Earlier this week I announced that I would be providing £1million to allow each of our 13 community transport providers across the north to procure a minibus each as many vehicles in the community transport fleet are ageing and require replacement. This addition to the Fermanagh Community Transport fleet will allow them to continue to deliver such a valuable service safely and efficiently.”
