    Date published: 24 June 2026

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that a £140,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme for Waring Street & Bridge Street, Belfast will commence on Sunday 28 June 2026.

The scheme will extend in both directions from the Donegall Street/Waring Street junction to the Bridge Street/High Street junction.

    Minister Kimmins said:

“This substantial investment of £140,000 for Belfast City Centre will deliver significant benefits for road users and visitors and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank all road users for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

To facilitate the scheme, overnight road closures will be required, from Sunday 28 June until Thursday 2 July 2026, between the hours of 7:00pm and 6:00am.

Diversionary routes will be clearly signed during periods of closure.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience to road users. However, whilst steps have been taken to accommodate local access,  road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works. Road users are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works are anticipated to be completed by 3 July  2026. The Department will however keep the public informed of any change.
