  • Kimmins announces £690,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on A29 New Road, Silverbridge

    The resurfacing scheme, commencing on Monday 13 April 2026, will involve the asphalt resurfacing of 2.2 kilometres of the A29 New Road commencing 700 metres south of Tullydonnell Road to a point approx. 750 metres north of the junction of Ballsmill Road.

    The Infrastructure Minister said:

    “This is a substantial investment for the Silverbridge area which will deliver significant benefits for local businesses, residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling in the Silverbridge area. Work is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 5 June 2026.  I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

    To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to implement a daily weekday road closure from Monday 13 April to Friday 5 June 2026 (Monday - Friday 09:30 – 16:30). The road will be open evenings & weekends .

    Alternative routes will be signed:

    Traffic travelling towards Dundalk will be diverted via A29 New Road, B30 Newry Road, The Square, Cullaville Road,  A37 Concession Road, RouteN53, N53 Castletown Road, R132 Newry Road and R177 Armagh Road

    Traffic travelling towards Newtownhamilton will be diverted via R177 Armagh Road, R132 Newry Road, Linenhall Street, Bridge Street, N53 Castletown, Route N53, A37 Concession Road, B30 Cullaville Road, The Square, Newry Road and A29 New Road.

    The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience however, while steps have been taken to accommodate local access road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions. 

    Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by Friday 5 June 2026, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
