    Date published: 14 May 2026

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that a £390,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme in Mountfield will commence on Monday 18 May 2026.

The scheme will involve 1.2 kilometres of carriageway resurfacing works on Main Street, Lenagh Road, Barony Road and Spring Road in the village.

    Minister Kimmins said:

"This substantial investment of £390,000 for the village of Mountfield will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to investing in and improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities.  I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme, it will be necessary to implement road and lane closures during the different phases of the scheme. Works will be carried out each weekday between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm however; the final resurfacing of Main Street will be completed overnight to minimise inconvenience to businesses, schools and through traffic. During the road closures, local signed diversionary routes will be in operation.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience however, while steps have been taken to accommodate local access, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by the 6 July 2026, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
