Extension to the term of a Warrenpoint Harbour Authority Non-Executive Member

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that the appointment term of Fiona Hanna to the Warrenpoint Harbour Authority has been extended for one month.
The Authority has responsibility, under a series of Harbour Acts and Orders, for developing, maintaining, and operating Warrenpoint Port to the highest standards of efficiency, financial prudence, environmental awareness, safety, and security to the benefit of all stakeholders.

“I want to thank Fiona for her continued service to the Warrenpoint Harbour Authority. I also want to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing member, Richard Johnston for his valuable contributions to the Warrenpoint Harbour Authority during his tenure.”

- Warrenpoint Harbour Authority is a corporate body, having perpetual succession and was first constituted by the Warrenpoint Harbour Authority Order (Northern Ireland) 1971. Its constitution is now enshrined in the Warrenpoint Harbour Authority Order (Northern Ireland) 2002. Warrenpoint Harbour Authority Orders of 1971 and 2002 conferred powers on the Authority to preserve, improve and manage the Port of Warrenpoint. The Authority also has the power to construct and maintain specific works, to levy dues, to deal with abandoned vessels and to make bylaws.
- Fiona Hanna was appointed to the Warrenpoint Harbour Authority on 1 August 2021. The extension is effective from 1 August to 31 August 2025 and has been made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland’s Code of Practice.
- Fiona Hanna is a Chartered Accountant with a range of experience across finance and business.
- The Non-Executive Members of the WHA Board currently receive remuneration of £8,772 per annum.
- All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland requires the political activity of appointees to be published. Mrs Hanna has declared that she has not undertaken any recent political activity.
- A competition is underway to appoint two Non-Executive Members to the Warrenpoint Harbour Authority. The appointments are expected to commence with effect from 1 September 2025 for a four-year term.
