    Consultation description

We are seeking views on proposed updates to the safety at street works and road works code of practice. The draft code of practice (which should be read alongside this consultation) provides statutory guidance on the signing, lighting and guarding of street and road works on public roads and highways to help protect workers, road users and pedestrians. The proposed updates reflect changes in legislation, guidance and working practices since the code [Safety at street works and road works - GOV.UK] was last updated in 2013.

Feedback from this consultation will be used to ensure the revised code is clear, practical and effective for those who use it.

    Why Your Views Matter

Street and road works play a vital role in maintaining and improving infrastructure and essential utility services. However, such works must be carried out safely to protect workers and minimise risks to the travelling public.

We welcome views from utility companies, road and civil engineering contractors, traffic management organisations, professional institutions and industry bodies, local councils, public transport operators, accessibility groups, emergency services, businesses and members of the public.

Your feedback will help shape future guidance and improve safety standards across Northern Ireland.
