    Summary

    DFI Roads is committed to the Northern Ireland Road Safety Strategy through the implementation of a series of road safety engineering measures. One such measure is the use of Traffic Calming measures.

    Consultation description

    Under Article 65 of the Roads (NI) Order 1993, it is the intention of the Department to construct traffic calming measures on U5341 Newtown Road, Newtowncloughoge in order to promote road safety.

    These draft proposals include:

    The construction of a total of 3 No. speed humps and 4 No pairs of speed cushions. The speed control features will be constructed in accordance with the Road Hump Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999.

    The speed hump control features will be placed across the carriageway and be side tapered and will measure approximately 5.8m in width, 4.7m in length and 75mm in height.

    Speed humps shall be placed on the Newtown Road, Parkview at approximately: -

    • 40m south of its junction with Forkhill Road
    • 125m south of its junction with Forkhill Road
    • 640m south of its junction with Forkhill Road

    The speed cushion control features will be placed in each lane of the carriageway with a height of no more than 75mm above the existing road surface.

    Speed cushions shall be placed on the Newtown Road, Parkview at approximately: -

    • 230m south of its junction with Forkhill Road
    • 340m south of its junction with Forkhill Road
    • 440m south of its junction with Forkhill Road
    • 540m south of its junction with Forkhill Road

    Inspecting the proposal

    A map showing the proposed scheme may be inspected free of charge during office hours at Marlborough House, Craigavon, access to this building is limited and inspection of the map is by appointment only, which can be arranged either by e-mail using the e-mail address above or by telephone during office hours (Mon to Fri 9.00 am to 5.00 pm) on 0300 200 7899.

    Making an objection

    Objections to the proposals may be made in writing to the Department at the address below or by email to tnindcraigavon@infrastructure-ni.gov.uk before 16 September 2024.
