  • Kimmins announces £350k road improvement scheme on Stoney Road, Belfast

    Date published: 6 May 2026

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that a £350,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on Stoney Road, Belfast will commence on Monday 18 May 2026.

The scheme will include essential resurfacing works along Stoney Road, from the rear entrance of Ulster Hospital to the entrance of Stormont Estate.

    Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said:

“This is a substantial investment for the Dundonald area which will deliver significant benefits for local businesses, residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities.  I recognise that there will be some disruption while these essential works are carried out and I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience and cooperation during this period.”

Due to the nature of the work, for safety purposes a full road closure will be in place for the duration of the scheme from 18 May until 19 June 2026. Advanced signage will be provided on site and a signed diversion route via the Upper Newtownards Road will be in place.

The Department has carefully planned the works and traffic management arrangements to minimise disruption as far as possible. However, while access for residents, businesses and the hospital will be maintained where practicable, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time for their journeys and to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be completed by 19 June 2026. The Department will keep the public informed of any significant changes to the programme.
