The week long campaign which begins on Monday 6 June aims to highlight the importance of public transport to the economy and wider society.

    Minister Hazzard said:

“As someone who lives beyond the city limits, I have long used our public transport system to get me to and from work and for recreational activities. I will certainly be ‘getting on board’ next week and I would like to encourage others to do the same, in particular my Stormont colleagues.

“By using public transport we can all help support local communities in cities and towns, help drive economic growth and social inclusion, and reduce congestion by getting to work, education, or just getting on with everyday life by using our bus and train network.”

Chris Conway, Group Chief Executive, Translink said: “We would like to thank the Minister for Infrastructure for backing our ‘Get on Board’ campaign and for encouraging support from his Stormont colleagues to join the Bus and Train Week celebrations.

“Our customers will benefit from a range of discounted fares in addition to everyday value tickets across all of our services. We are asking everyone to ‘Get On Board’ Bus and Train Week and help us promote the many benefits of public transport. In particular, we would encourage people who don’t normally take the bus or train to give it a go and experience the benefits for themselves.”
