    Date published: 23 December 2021

Main Street, Glenavy will benefit from a £45,000 footway widening scheme, with work due to commence on Monday 10 January 2022.

The widening of the existing footway on the western side of Main Street will extend from Glen Road in a southerly direction for a distance of approximately 210 metres and is expected to take 6 weeks to complete.

    Minister Mallon said:

“This significant investment will improve safety for both residents and visitors and help enhance local business along this busy street. I would like to thank the public and local businesses in advance for their cooperation and ask they comply with all temporary traffic restrictions while these works are completed.”

Works will be carried out daily between 8.00 am and 4:30 pm. To facilitate the works and to ensure the safety of the public and personnel it will be necessary to close stretches of the footway between Glen Road and the Petrol Filling Station. Temporary lane restrictions on Main Street will also be necessary during the works. Local access to businesses and private properties will be maintained at all times and all efforts will be made to minimise disruption.

Whilst the Department has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise any inconvenience to businesses and the public, road users should expect some delays and allow additional time when planning any journey.

To help ensure the safety of road users and road workers, we would ask the public to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions and to exercise extra care when travelling in the area. Completion of the scheme by 18 February will be dependent on favourable weather conditions.
