Council gets update on infrastructure projects for Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council - 2017

Speaking as he addressed Council members this evening, Divisional Roads Manager David Porter said:

“On 12 June 2017, the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council area saw the opening of A26 Frosses Dualling between Glarryford crossroads and Drones Road.

“This project will realise significant benefits for both the local community and commuters by improving both journey times and journey time reliability for this stretch of the A26, by reducing driver frustration and improving the safety performance of the route for all road users.

Additionally, the completion of a new roundabout at the junction of the A37 Broad Road with Greystone Road, Limavady addresses a significant collision history along with peak time queuing and delays. The scheme included resurfacing of 1,100 metres of Broad Road.”

David Porter added:

“It is also worth noting other projects in the area recently completed, including resurfacing at A2 Mary Street, Ballycastle, A26 Newbridge Road, Coleraine at Damhead, A29 at Carhill Road, Garvagh, A371 Ballyclose Street, Limavady, B16 Garryduff Road, Ballymoney, B68 Irish Green Street, Limavady, B192 Drumrane Road, Limavady, C535 Gateside Road/Cloyfin Road junction in Bushmills and U3508 Hazelbank Road, Coleraine.

On the issue of the Department’s budget, Mr Porter continued:

“Despite a challenging budgetary situation, the Department has delivered a significant programme of resurfacing and surface dressing and continues to carry out a programme of routine maintenance, including pothole repairs and street lighting repairs to meet all essential public safety requirements. The Department has also successfully secured additional funding this year and so will be able to deliver some further road resurfacing and street lighting upgrades along with routine maintenance of our heavily trafficked road network.”

In relation to winter gritting services, Mr Porter added:

“The Department is planning to deliver a normal winter service, as in previous years, with all necessary staff and equipment at the ready to be deployed as and when required.”

In conclusion, Mr Porter thanked the Council for their continued good working relationship with DfI staff and emphasised that this was necessary to deliver much needed public services during this time of financial constraint.
