On 1 April 2014, DfI Roads divisional boundaries were made coterminous with the new local government districts which were implemented in April 2015.
The divisional boundary change impacted upon the predetermined procurement strategy for maintenance and improvement works across Northern Ireland. Taking account of the boundaries of the 11 new local government districts, DfI Roads developed a new strategy to realign term contracts with the new boundaries and divisional structures.
To increase tender opportunities in areas of high spend, the number of contracts available have increased. For example, the number of term contracts for asphalt resurfacing increased from nine to twelve.
