The right to seek and “to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution” is a fundamental human right – protected in international law. The internationally agreed 1951 Refugee Convention sets out the protection that all refugees should receive without discrimination.
As part of the NI Executive’s emergency response to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, DfI is establishing a temporary travel scheme providing Ukrainian refugees coming to Northern Ireland to flee the conflict with free public transport to their final destination.
