Thank you for your reply regarding concerns about the road safety outside Our Lady and St. Patrick’s Primary School, Edward Street, Downpatrick. I am very disappointed though yet again that these measures are all the Department are willing to put in place. Like I said in my last email this street is not functioning properly and is creating a very dangerous environment for vulnerable school children and pedestrians surely the Department cannot let this situation carry on until a fatality happens?
If a meeting on site would not be beneficial could I request to see assessments or reviews that have been carried out on Edward Street?
If a guard rail was put in place in the location at the top of the steps it wouldn't pose a risk to anyone in fact the complete opposite it would save life's! I don't think one person would object to it! In regards to the traffic attendant I have never witnessed them patrolling this area outside of the school, could this be done?
All I know is that this is a totally unacceptable and unsafe environment for any child, pedestrian, householder, motorist to find themselves in and as the Department for Infrastructure are responsible for the running of this Street then they must find the solution to this problem before it's to late. I have provided the footage to back this up and it has been brought to the Department's attention many times over the years by concerned parents and members of the public, councillors, PSNI, Council and residents. Our Community wants this so who's responsible for turning these pleas away? The Safety of these children is not being taken seriously.
Could I request under the Freedom of Information Act:
- Any assessment that has been done on Edward Street in Downpatrick?
- The date of when the last assessment was done?
- Who is responsible for making the decisions for this street?
- The approximate cost of a one way system?
- Cost off a zebra crossing?
