Hydrometric Station Network Remedial Works
DfI Rivers Hydrometric Station Network consists of over 130 stations across Northern Ireland.
These stations monitor and record watercourse level information throughout Northern Ireland, including Coastal Levels. This network is critical in helping DfI Rivers achieving its vision of managing flood risk.
Works Scope
Upgrading and installation of steps, along with general improvements to station access at the following Gauging Stations across Northern Ireland;
- Castlederg
- Dudgeon Bridge
- Camowen Terrace
- Lisboy
- Ballinderry Bridge
- Burndennet
- Kilraghts
- Houstons Mill
- Dromona
- Clady Bridge
Works Objective
These works aim to improve the safe access and egress to river channels. This would allow DfI Rivers staff members a safe method of deploying a Remote-Control Gauging Boat and other gauging equipment which is used to measure flow. This will also provide staff with a safe method of reading water levels from post gauges used to calibrate our water level monitoring equipment. These works are vital in our attempts to help reduce the impact of flooding from fluvial sources.
Works Overview
DfI Rivers Hydrometric Team, which forms part of the Emergency Planning Unit, is using the Central Procurement Directive (CPD) term contractors to carry out the proposed health and safety remedial works at the above Hydrometric Stations. The Department will ensure work is carried out using environmentally sensitive river engineering techniques and will consult with Conservation and Fisheries organisations on the works programme.
Having determined that the proposed works are not, by reason amongst other things of their nature, size or location, likely to have significant environmental effects it is the Department’s intention not to prepare an Environmental Statement. In accordance with Regulation 8 (1) of the Regulations, representations may be made in writing to the Department at the address given below, with regard to its intention not to prepare an Environmental Statement. The closing date for receipt of representations is 1st December 2024.
