Resurfacing scheme for A26 Oldstone Road, Antrim

The Oldstone Road, Antrim is set to benefit from a resurfacing programme with work due to commence on 29 October.

Resurfacing work

The programme will be completed in three phases and will deliver significant improvements to both the structural integrity and surface of the carriageway.

  • The first phase, which extends approximately 1.6 kilometres from Belfast Road to Abbey Road will be carried out between 29 October and 11 November.
  • The second phase is a 1 kilometre stretch between Abbey Road and Ballyharvey Road with work taking place between 12 November and 25 November.
  • The final phase is a 1.7 metre stretch between Ballyharvey Road and Killead Roundabout and will be carried out between 26 November and 7 December. 

To facilitate the work a full road closure will be in operation from 29 October until 7 December. Diversions will be as follows:

  • Northbound: via Killead Roundabout - Ballyrobin Rd - Antrim Rd -  Belfast Rd.
  • Southbound: via  Belfast Rd -  Antrim Rd -  Ballyrobin Rd – Killead Roundabout.

In addition the Seven Mile Straight will be closed at its junction with the Oldstone Road from Monday 5 November to Sunday 11 November.  Traffic will be diverted via Old Ballyrobin Rd –  Ballyrobin Rd –  Belfast Rd.

All diversionary routes will be clearly signed and local access for residents will be maintained at all times during the works.  

The Department has programmed the work operations to minimise inconvenience, however, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the area.

To help ensure the safety of road users and road workers the public is asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions and to drive with care, when travelling through, or in the vicinity, of the works.

Work is expected to be completed by 7 December however this will be dependent on the progress of the scheme and on favourable weather conditions.
