£310,000 road improvement scheme for C554 Sixtowns Road, Draperstown

Date published: 24 February 2021

A resurfacing scheme on the C554 Sixtowns Road will commence on Monday 1 March 2021.

The scheme, which is approximately 2.5 kilometres in length, will start from the Blackrock Road towards Draperstown.

To facilitate the works it will be necessary to implement a full road closure of the C554 Sixtowns Road to through traffic, between the U722 Blackrock Road and the B47 Owenreagh Road, for the duration of the works.

During this closure Draperstown bound traffic will be diverted at Keerin Road, into Cookstown and through Moneymore and Desertmartin.

Greencastle & Omagh bound traffic will be diverted at the Disert Road junction, into Cookstown and along Orritor Road and Tulnacross Road.

Plumbridge traffic using the Owenreagh Road / Cavanreagh Road will be unaffected.

Advanced warning signage for the closure will be provided and diversion routes will be signed as necessary.

The Department has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public.  Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journey and to follow the alternative routes which will be clearly signed on the approaches to the closure.

Completion of the work by Friday 2 April 2021 is subject to favourable weather conditions, however, the Department will keep the public informed of any change.  All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
