The Department for Communities (DfC) Historic Environment Division (HED) have recently published, “Historic Buildings of Local Importance – A guide to their identification and protection”. This good practice guide aims to assist councils achieve a consistent approach when identifying and protecting non-designated historic buildings of local importance, commonly referred to as ‘local listing’ or ‘community listing’.
In addition, guidance relating to urgent works and building preservation notices has been revised. The Urgent Works Notices and Building Preservation Notices publications are both good practice guides for councils and are largely replications of guidance issued under the auspices of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA), with amendments taking account of the move of historic environment matters to the Department for Communities.
