The Department for Infrastructure hereby gives notice, in pursuance of Article 12A of the Drainage (Northern Ireland) Order 1973 (as amended) that it proposes to carry out a flood alleviation scheme on the existing Armagh Road Drain, Downshire Stream, Derrybeg River and Knox-Pebbles Drain.

Consultation description

The purpose of the scheme is to protect properties located at Armagh Road, Downshire Road, Belfast Road, Craigmore Road, Chancellor's Road and Greenbank Industrial Estate, Newry, from flooding. The proposed works will include; upgrading sections of the existing Armagh Road Drain culvert, upgrading the existing Downshire stream culvert, construction of a section of flood defence wall on Armagh Road Drain, construction of a flood defence on both sides of the Derrybeg River, adjacent to Chancellor’s Road, installation of a new culvert at Upper Edward Street and construction of two flood defence walls along Knox-Pebbles Drain at Greenbank Industrial Estate.

Inspecting the proposal

A copy of the proposed scheme will be available for inspection, at the addresses below, from 12 September 2019 to 14 October 2019, during normal opening hours:
