Overview:

The Foyle Bridge is located on one of the five Key Transport Corridors included in the Regional Strategic Transport Network identified in the Regional Development Strategy. This Belfast - Londonderry corridor provides the main linkage for the North West of Northern Ireland and Northern Donegal to Great Britian through the ports of Belfast and Larne.

Following an assessment in 1999, it was found that the bridge required strengthening in order to carry the full range of vehicles that it was intended to.

Work included:

  • strengthening
  • resurfacing the bridge deck
  • repainting
